Textiles

What I Have Done So Far In Textiles

In textiles, I have been cutting the black material out to make a jersey for my dad. Last week I was cutting all of the patterns out that I needed. While cutting out the material I had to pin the paper pattern onto the material and then cut some of it on a fold, but two of the patterns I didn't have to cut them on a fold. Now I think right now I have to start sewing it all together to make it into a nice warm Eclipse Supporter Jersey for my dad but I think he will love it cause he will wear it to the compitions and when we travel away.

This is kind of like the Fabric I am using.

Canterbury Research - Know Your Place

In Social Studies we have been learning how to make a PREZI and for the last week I have been figuring it out and also on how to use it and here is my PREZI.
I have covered areas on Canterbury History, Environment, My Canterbury and Canterbury Today,

Here are some interesting facts about Christchurch
  1. It is believed that the Christchurch area was first settled in 1250 by tribes hunting the now-extinct moa, a large flightless bird that was endemic to New Zealand. In the 16th century.
  2. In early 1840, whaling Europeans arrived and established whaling stations in what is now Christchurch. In 1848, the Canterbury Association was founded to form a colony in the region and in 1850 pilgrims began to arrive.
  3. On July 31, 1856, Christchurch became the first official city in New Zealand and it quickly grew as more European settlers arrived.
  4. Today the economy of Christchurch is based largely on agriculture from the rural areas surrounding the city.
  5. Tourism is also a large part of Christchurch's economy. There are a number of ski resorts and national parks in the nearby Southern Alps.
  6.  Some of Christchurch's other major tourist attractions include several wildlife parks and reserves, art galleries and museums, the International Antarctic Centre and the historic Christ Church Cathedral (which was damaged in the February 2011 earthquake).
  7. Christchurch is located in New Zealand's Canterbury region on its South Island. The city has coastlines along the Pacific Ocean and the estuaries of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers. The city has an urban population of 390,300 (June 2010 estimate) and covers an area of 550 square miles (1,426 sq km).
  8. Christchurch is a highly planned city that is based on a central city square that has four different city squares surrounding the central one. In addition, there is a parklands area in the center of the city and this is where the historic Cathedral Square, home of the Christ Church Cathedral, is located.
  9. The city of Christchurch is also geographically unique because it is one of the world's eight pairs of cities that have a near-exact antipodal city (a city on the exact opposite side of the earth). A Coruña, Spain is Christchurch's antipode.
  10. The climate of Christchurch is dry and temperate that is highly influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Winters are often cold and summers are mild. The average January high temperature in Christchurch is 72.5˚F (22.5˚C), while the July average is 52˚F (11˚C).
Christchurch is one of the largest cities in New Zealand and it is the largest city located on the country's South Island. Christchurch was named by the Canterbury Association in 1848 and it was officially established on July 31, 1856, making it the oldest city in New Zealand. The official Maori name for the city is Otautahi. Christchurch has recently been in the news due to a large magnitude 6.3 earthquake that hit the region on the afternoon of February 22, 2011. The massive earthquake killed at least 65 people (according to early CNN reports) and trapped hundreds more in the rubble. Phone lines were knocked out and buildings all over the city were destroyed — some of which were historic. In addition, many of Christchurch's roads were damaged in the Earthquake and several areas of the city were flooded after water mains broke. This was the second large earthquake to hit New Zealand's South Island in recent months. On September 4, 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit 30 miles (45 km) west of Christchurch and damaged sewers broke water and gas lines. Despite the earthquake's size, however, there were no fatalities reported.

Here are some Photos of Christchurch/Canterbury today.

Technology And Change Essay

 Technology And Change Essay

In Social Studies we have been doing presentations about the stuff back in the old days. But my friend and I did a presentation about the 21st century. But for the last 2 weeks, we have been writing an essay about Technology And Change.

Here is the presentation of the 21st-century Slides

And here is my essay

The Glossary of Education Reform defines 21st-century skills as “a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and character traits that are believed to be critically important to success in today's world, particularly in collegiate programs and contemporary careers and workplaces.” the 21st Century period, there were some significant technological advancements. Some of the inventions were Touch Screen Glass, 3D Printing, and the Birth Control Patch.

The Touch Screen Glass was created in 2007 and also it is a super-thin, chemically strengthened glass that is a key component of the touchscreen world. This sturdy transparent material that helps keep your Ipad or phone from shattering into pieces at the slightest drop. Even if these screens crack, in most cases the damage is cosmetic and the gadget still works. The Touch-Glass system allows touchscreen type control through glass windows on retail and other outlets. Touch-Glass has the function of a touch screen but its functionality opens up a wide spectrum of possibilities and applications. Touch-Glass is a computer interface or device that controls up to 16 sensors.

3D printing was created and produced between the 1990s and early 2000s. Most inventions come as a
result of the previous ideas and concepts, also 3D printing is no different.  The convergence of cheaper
manufacturing methods and open-source software, however, has led to a revolution of 3D printing in
recent years. Today, the technology is being used in the production of everything from lower-cost car
parts to bridges to less painful ballet slippers and it is even considered for artificial organs. 3D printing
or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file.
The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. 3D printing enables you to
produce complex shapes using less material than traditional manufacturing methods.

The early years of millennia have brought about an innovation in family planning, albeit one that is still
focused only on women and does nothing to protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Still, the birth control patch was first released in the United States in 2002  and has made it much easier for
women to prevent unintended pregnancies. The plastic patch contains the same estrogen and progesterone
hormones found in birth control pills and delivers them in the same manner as nicotine patches do to help
people quit tobacco products. It was invented in 2002. The birth control patch for women is a type of
contraception that contains the hormones estrogen and progestin. You place the small patch on your
skin once a week for three weeks, so that you wear a patch for a total of 21 days. During the fourth week,
you don't wear a patch that allows menstrual bleeding to occur.

In conclusion, you have now learned about the Touch Screen Glass, 3D Printing,
and the Birth Control Patch. These are now what we use nowadays but not back in the olden days.
But in my opinion, it is better now because it is way more fancier, and back then it probably wouldn’t
go so well. But then it wasn’t made in the 1990s ect.

But we have been using our teacher's site to do our work from https://sites.google.com/hornby.school.nz/visualarts/year-10-semester-two that is her site if you would like to go and have a look at it. Here are some Techniques we have been using AKA Painting Techniques Gesso,Texture, Blending, Layers, Stencils, and Positive and Negative Spaces  Here are some photos of what we have been doing this term AKA semester 2.
